Changing gender by going to the registry office: Germany’s traffic light coalition’s self-determination law goes into its first reading – after a long discussion and with some changes.
But is it a good law? Emma’s criticism is worth a read: “The law is a step backwards!”:
The planned law requires people between the ages of 14 and 18 to have sexual self-determination, which most people at this age do not yet have. According to my experiences in my own therapeutic practice, practically every young person wants a medical gender reassignment after changing their first name and marital status – without being able to understand the full extent of the consequences for their own immature sexuality and the irreversibility. The inventors of this law are lying to avoid responsibility! DR. RENATE FÖRSTERLING, TRANSWOMAN
