A documentary about a growing problem: people who changed sex and regret it. Titled “Detransition, they have changed sex and they regret”, from Temps Présent of March 2, 2023 – a program of Swiss public television, Radio Television Suisse.
Outline
As you know, gender issues have evolved considerably in recent years and occupy the public space. Society recognizes sexualities and, above all, genders for everyone, far from the classic male/female binary. Rightly, the trans community is struggling because it still faces stigma, harassment, and even violence.
Taking the step of the transition remains difficult. TempsPresent and the RTS have extensively discussed these issues in several broadcasts. Today in Switzerland, a suffering minor can begin a gender transition, whether social or even medical. This approach concerns a tiny minority of young people, but it is not trivial, in terms of health, physical and mental. And also, sometimes, because going back is not possible.
We consider that this theme is of great public interest, it raises questions and concerns, among parents, in the scientific community. Sofia Pekmez and Mauro Losa have however almost systematically come up against closed doors, in particular among professionals in the care of young trans people. We consider that this does not facilitate the debate, but that does not prevent us from proposing it to you.
Once again, we regret that care professionals, as well as activist organizations, have chosen not to participate, and for some, to campaign against this broadcast. TempsPresent has extensively reported on gender and transidentity issues, it is also our role to deal with disturbing themes.
A report by Sofia Pekmez and Mauro Losa.
