European Court of Human Rights Presses Germany On Reasons For School Closures During COVID-19

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) Wants to know if the school closures during the pandemic based on the well-being of children. The German Ministry of Justice has received a list of questions about the federal emergency brake, which imposed restrictions on public life if the new corona infections in a district exceeded certain values. This included school closures.

Among other things, the ECHR demanded an answer to the question of whether the child’s well-being was actually the central criterion for the renewed school closures. The judges also wanted to know to what extent the effects of previous school closures during the pandemic period had been taken into account in the decision-making process.

The German Ministry of Justice must respond by 12 April.

The ECHR is taking the case seriously – that’s the indication being given by the list of question sent to the German Ministry of Justice.
