Federal emissions cap is “another power grab”

Canada is the world’s fourth-largest oil and fifth-largest gas producer. Alberta and the industry believe the policy is a de facto production cap.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith reacted to the cap by pointing out Section 92A of the Canadian Constitution gives provinces exclusive jurisdiction over non-renewable natural resource development and that the emissions cap will require a production cut of about one million barrels of oil and gas per day by 2030 and 2.1 million barrels per day by 2035.
