Roderich Kiesewetter, a retired high-ranking officer in the Bundeswehr — Germany’s armed forces — and lawmaker for the conservative Christian Democratic Union party, said China could use the project not only as part of hybrid warfare and espionage but also as a means of economic pressure.
“In the event of an attack on Taiwan, China could threaten to shut down the wind farms to stop Germany from considering sanctions,” Kiesewetter said. “This is also a security risk for our NATO partners, as China could use the data together with Russia to gain an overview of the situation and to spy on militarily relevant infrastructure and movements.”
