Vancouver Archdiocese official Monseigneur Gregory Smith has insight into the conclave’s choice to pick American-born Cardinal Robert Prevost, now known as Pope Leo XIV.
Smith says the new pope is a surprising choice, but is a “universal figure” and has connections with Canadian churches, and believes his experience will positively affect the relationship between the Catholic Church and Indigenous communities.
