‘Standstill commitment’: New AfD classification as ‘extremist’ provisionally suspended until court rules on party’s lawsuit

After the AfD filed a lawsuit against the classification as “confirmed right-wing extremist,” the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution temporarily suspended the upgrade. This was a procedural decision—but not a statement on the substance.

This means that until a ruling is reached, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) will not officially classify the AfD as extremist, but will initially only list it as a suspected case.
