Transgender Ideology: Germany’s AfD Calls For Ban On Hormones, Puberty Blockers For Minors

Germany’s Alternative fur Deutschland (AfD) party in the Bundestag has submitted a motion to ban the administration of hormones and puberty blockers to minors. According to the AfD, this is to protect vulnerable children and young people from transgender ideology that induces them to believe they are suffering from ‘gender dysphoria.

The motion points out that “gender dysphoria”, i.e., the feeling of living with the wrong gender, has increased enormously among children and young people. According to the AfD, ‘transition’ clinics in Germany recorded a fivefold increase in patients in the period from 2013 to 2018. The number of drug treatments for children and adolescents with “puberty blockers” has increased accordingly.

The motion called for a study “that comprehensively examines the consequences of such treatments”. Projects funded by federal funds should also be checked to see to what extent they promote the “trans hype”. The government must ensure “that the contents of such portals represent the scientific findings and therapeutic positions factually”.

So-called de-transitioners are increasingly warning against the harmful effects of medical intervention, such as surgery and hormone treatment, to effect a change of gender. A de-transitioner is when person who has transitioned to another gender returns to live as the gender assigned by their birth sex. Puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones have been shown to cause severe and often life-long injuries, including osteoporosis, and increased risk of cardiovascular disease, as well as breast and uterus cancers.

Mary, a de-trans woman, wrote on Twitter that transitioning was mistake for her, and the idea that a person could be born in the wrong body is “just mental illness”.

“Don’t get me wrong I fully accept my mistake of transitioning. I just think my life would be better if I never heard of trans ideology. I don’t really believe in trans anymore. I don’t think anyone is born in the wrong body or wrong brain. It’s just mental illness,” Mary said.

In a press release, the deputy head of the AfD parliamentary group, Beatrix Von Storch, wrote:

“With the rainbow portal, the traffic light government is brainwashing children in the spirit of the trans lobby. The trans lobby wants to use children’s insecurities to encourage them to undergo chemical castration and later physical mutilation in order to increase the number of ‘trans people.’ This is also supported by the fact that the number of transsexuals in the population is estimated at up to 4 percent. The traffic light government is thus promoting psychological abuse and physical harm to children and young people. The rainbow portal must be shut down and puberty blockers and hormone treatments for minors must be banned. The influence of the trans lobby on state and society has become a threat to the psychological and physical integrity of children and young people.”

U.K High Court: Court Order Required For Puberty Blockers

On 1 Dec 2021, the U.K. High Court issued a landmark ruling requiring doctors to seek a court order before administering puberty-blocking drugs to children under 16. This is following a lawsuit by Keira Bell against the state-run Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS) at the Tavistock and Portman National Health Service Foundation Trust.

Bell, aged 23, claimed that the Tavistock Center did not give her sufficient warning about the irreversible damages of gender-transition hormone treatment. The court ruled that the medical treatment for gender dysphoria provided by GIDS was “experimental” and lacked adequate scientific basis. In the 28-page ruling, the judges also said doctors failed to properly explain the known long-term effects of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones. They also questioned the capability of minors to give informed consent to such life-altering medical interventions.

Plaintiff, Keira Bell.

Commenting on the court ruling, Bell said “These drugs harmed me in more ways than one, and they have harmed many more … particularly girls and young women,”

“This judgment … exposes a complacent and dangerous culture at the heart of the national center responsible for treating children and young people with gender dysphoria,” Bell added.
