The Supreme Court this week allowed President Donald Trump to implement his ban on transgender people serving in the military while a legal challenge against it continues.
One transgender military member shares what the ban means for him:
“To say that I am heartbroken is an understatement. Today, the DoD finalized policy that will end my career, in as soon as 60 days. A career I have worked towards for nearly 18 years, one which I pushed through hardship and challenges because I knew at the end there would be benefits that would allow me to have a good life. 18 years will be stripped away because I am transgender. And although I have exceeded standards on every evaluation I have received in the last 12+ years, I am being told I am incompatible with military service and unable to adhere to the rigorous standards of the military.
