Canada’s MDA courts global talent in defense-driven space boom

Bloomberg: Brampton, Ontario-based satellite developer MDA Space Ltd. is working with the Quebec government to address tax requirements for new international hires. The company is finishing a new facility in Montreal that will allow it to build as many as 10 satellites a week, up from one per week last year.

Chief Executive Officer Mike Greenley said he hopes Canada will come to be seen as an attractive place for engineers to land. Asked about current US immigration policy, he said: “If people were looking to go into the United States to work in space, and that was now not going to work out for them, Canada’s a great place to back off into because we have a very expanding space program and it’s still a North American base.”…
