Carney’s plan to ram big projects through is not progress. It’s recklessness

Tim Gray/Toronto Star: Let’s be clear about what’s at stake: Carney’s proposed “Federal Economic Zones” (which are alarmingly similar to Premier Doug Ford’s undemocratic “Special Economic Zones”) would hand the prime minister and cabinet unprecedented powers to exempt entire regions of Canada from federal laws designed to keep us safe. It would mean bitumen and gas pipelines could be declared projects of public interest and “pre-approved” before any meaningful review has begun.

…Read that again: Ottawa would be able to make decisions about these projects before Canadians had a chance to understand their consequences…
