Canada’s military renewal ought to be about more than just guns, ships and jets

Lloyd Axworthy/Toronto Star: A dangerous world requires credible defence. But military spending alone will not make Canada safer, more influential, or more respected internationally.

Security cannot be measured only in ships, aircraft, radars, missiles and drones. It must also be measured in wars prevented, civilians protected, famines averted, arms flows interrupted and peace processes sustained.

That is why Canada needs a human security agenda alongside its military renewal…
