Camouflage operation? Chinese electric vehicle battery giant CATL to become more “European”

The European Union is increasing its scrutiny of China’s electric vehicle (EV) industry which is said to benefit from unfair market advantages, including massive state subsidies from Beijing. Faced with this new reality, the Chinese companies operating in Europe are adapting with inventiveness. For example, according to this Semafor report, the Chinese-owned electric vehicle battery company CATL is striving to become more “European”. Beyond the changing appearances, however, company control remains firmly in Chinese hands.
