Denmark’s hardline migration policy backfires as centrist voters pushed to rival left

FAZ: Denmark’s migration policy, which has made it a model for many in Germany, particularly within the CDU, plays a role in this. Frederiksen has so far succeeded in pushing back right-wing populist parties with an extremely tough stance on immigration. Now the Prime Minister wants to tighten the rules even further and, for example, make it easier to deport foreign criminals. To this end, she recently even called for a change in the interpretation of the European Convention on Human Rights.

But the path of ever-tightening restrictions seems to have reached its limit. Centrist voters turned away from Frederiksen and toward left-wing parties…
