EU and U.K. impose new Russia sanctions targeting Moscow’s energy revenue and spies

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov brushed off the EU move, saying that “we consider such unilateral restrictions unlawful.”

“At the same time, we have acquired certain immunity from sanctions. We have adapted to living under sanctions,” Peskov said in a conference call with reporters. “We will need to analyze the new package in order to minimize negative consequences from it.”

The new package of sanctions comes as one of Europe’s largest energy companies signed a 20-year deal too buy American natural gas, while US-EU tariff trade talks hit crunch time. The EU’s chief trade negotiator, Maroš Šefčovič, flew to Washington on Wednesday to hammer out a deal before Trump’s deadline of August 1.
