Kujat focused on the war aims of the two major powers involved, the USA and Russia, because: “You win a war when you achieve the political goals for which you are fighting the war.” The original war aims of both sides are no longer realistic. Russia has failed to stop the further expansion of NATO and to create a buffer zone – this is demonstrated by the accession of Sweden and Finland. But the West has failed to weaken Russia. Kujat pointed to the economic upturn and the strengthening of the armed forces in Russia. “Nobody can win this war,” said Kujat, who repeatedly pointed out the need for realism and negotiations. This does not mean giving up support for Ukraine or denying Russian aggression. The West must also support Ukraine in negotiations.
