Tagesthemen: Many had expected a purely security policy speech. What kind of signal was this speech by Vance – with its completely different topics: freedom of speech, which supposedly does not exist in Europe, and that Europe and Germany should fight the migration crisis?
Pistorius: It was a speech that I had not expected, and that actually did not fit there, to put it clearly. It is the Munich Security Conference.
He said little about Ukraine, about Russia, about the threats we are facing, and also little about NATO and Europe’s security and defense policy. I would have liked more. That didn’t happen.
Why he did this other part – I would also like to ask him that question. It was neither necessary nor helpful. And that is why we should quickly get back to business as usual, or better said, back to work.
