Liberal investment or spending? New Conservative ad takes aim at Carney 2025 budget newspeak

The Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) is taking aim at Prime Minister Mark Carney’s first federal budget, releasing a pointed new ad within hours of the government revealing a record $78.3 billion deficit for 2025-26.

The 30-second spot, posted to the party’s official X account, features the tagline “Conservatives are fighting for an affordable budget” and accuses Carney of “spending Canadians’ money” under the guise of “Liberal investment.” The ad’s tone is brisk and humorous, framing the Liberal budget as “spend, spend, spend.”

According to the budget documents, total new spending will reach about $141 billion over five years, offset by planned savings of $52 billion. Carney has described the plan as a “generational investment” to shield the economy from global shocks and U.S. trade pressures.
