CBC News projects Mark Carney’s Liberals will form a minority government as Elections Canada finishes counting special ballots. The party won enough seats to lead the country but fell short of a decisive majority.
In order to govern, a Liberal minority government will need to rely either on the support of the Bloc Québécois or the NDP. Bloc leader Yves-Francois Blanchet has said he is open to working with Carney’s Liberals. But the big question is how long can a Liberal minority government last if it comes to depend on a separatist party to govern?
Considering also that the Bloc has also lost many seats to the Liberals in this election, it is not implausible that the Bloc would want to recuperate those lost seats by forcing the Liberals into another election soon…
