“Simply not borne out by evidence”: Tommy Robinson found not guilty of terror offence after ‘refusing to give police access to phone’

Daily Mail: District Judge Sam Goozee cleared Robinson, saying: “Your detention lacked rigour, police never sought representations, and more concerningly police never explored what questions or topics were being examined.

It is what you stood for and your beliefs that amounted to a protected characteristic. That is at the forefront of my concern.

Based on the evidence, although your political views may be a factor in making a determination under Section 40, the inability of the officers to remember what questions were asked or covered means I cannot be satisfied that the stop was not driven by knowledge of your political beliefs.

The Crown’s submission of your connections to far-right terrorism is simply not borne out by evidence of the officers. There is no evidence at all that those questions were brought up in your detention interview…
