Why it will take months to get details on Carney’s plans to cut $58.2 billion in federal spending

Toronto Star: According to a senior government official granted anonymity to speak freely, specific line-by-line detailed spending cuts will not be publicly revealed until the “main estimates” – a roundup of departments’ annual spending that must be tabled by March 1 each year then approved by Parliament –  are presented for 2025-2026, but once the budget is passed, departmental heads will start to implement cuts and to inform staff of the impact on employee numbers, on the programs they operate, and on the grants and contributions they distribute…
